The coronavirus could be changing how people live, work and study long into the future. In China, it has accelerated some technological and digital projects that were in the phases of tests before the outbreak.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Chinese food delivery giant\u00a0<\/span>Meituan<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>Dianping<\/b>\u00a0launched an unmanned delivery\u00a0<\/span>programme\u00a0<\/span>for its e-commerce grocery offer.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Meanwhile,\u00a0<\/span>JD.com<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>has been<\/span>\u00a0delivering medical supplies via autonomous vehicles in the city of Wuhan<\/strong> and food delivery service owned by Alibaba \u2013\u00a0<\/span>ele.me<\/b>\u00a0deployed delivery robots to send meals to rooms in quarantined hotel in the eastern Chinese<\/strong> city of Wenzhou<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

In Russia, supermarket chain\u00a0<\/span>VkusVill<\/b>\u00a0plans to install\u00a0<\/span>its\u00a0<\/span>vending machines, called VkusVill Micromarkets<\/strong> in the entrances of residential buildings in Moscow <\/strong>and St. Petersburg<\/strong> to serve shoppers during the lockdown. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The company has open online application forms on which the interested residents of housing buildings of 100 apartments can apply for the installation, which will be free. The machines will be able to stock about 70\u00a0<\/span>Vkusvill products.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Domino\u2019s<\/strong>, the largest pizza retailer, is currently testing out an autonomous delivery system at one of its store in Houston<\/strong>. Some lucky customers will have the opportunity to be delivered by R2, Nuro\u2019s self-driving robotic vehicle<\/strong>. To participate, customers have to place a prepaid order to the Houston store\u2019s website. The selected customers will receive a sms notifying them of the delivery and will be then able to follow R2 location via GPS<\/strong>. Once the vehicle has arrived, customers receive a personal PIN to enter in a touchscreen, which opens the door of the vehicle and allows the customer to pick its pizza. The pizza retailer is clearly trying to improve its last kilometer strategy.<\/p>\r\n

PepsiCo<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>has teamed\u00a0<\/span>up with\u00a0<\/span>Robby Technologies<\/b>\u00a0to operate a team of self-driving vending vehicles on the campus of the University of the Pacific in Stockton in California<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The Pepsi snack robots are basically remote vending machines that can roll out around the campus autonomously.\u00a0<\/span>S<\/span>tudents and staff can order the robots to deliver snacks via\u00a0<\/span>PepsiCo\u2019s<\/b>\u00a0Hello Goodness<\/b>\u00a0app.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
