In a world fearful of touch, voice technology is getting a fresh look. Given the hands-free nature of voice assistants, voice tech<\/span>n<\/span>ology<\/span>\u00a0is being\u00a0<\/span>increasingly\u00a0<\/span>used inside hospitals as a communication tool. Northwell Hospital in New York added 4,000\u00a0<\/span>Echo Show<\/b>\u00a0devices to allow staff to speak with Covid-19 patients in isolation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Furthermore, according to Amazon numbers, the worldwide usage of\u00a0<\/span>Alexa<\/b>\u00a0skills is up 65% over the past two months.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>In the United States, customers asked\u00a0<\/span>Alexa\u00a0more cooking-related questions during a lockdown week in April than during Thanksgiving week.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

A<\/span>nalysts from ABI research estimate<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0that voice control device shipments for smart home devices hit 141 million last year, and in 2020 will grow globally by close to 30%.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Scott Galloway, a Clinical Marketing Professor at NYU recently said of Covid-19:\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span><\/i>Things won\u2019t change as much as they will accelerate. While other crises reshaped the future, Covid-19 is just making the future faster.<\/span><\/i>\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/i>Concerning voice technology, the sanitary crisis may accelerate the interface shift from Touch to Talk.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Carrefour and Google launch voice grocery shopping in France<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

France\u2019s\u00a0biggest grocer,\u00a0Carrefour<\/strong>,\u00a0in a partnership with\u00a0Google<\/strong>,\u00a0has launched a voice-based grocery shopping service in\u00a0the Country. \u00a0The service is another step towards\u00a0Carrefour\u2019s\u00a0ambition to accelerate its expansion into food e-commerce and it will allow users who associate their\u00a0Google\u00a0account with their\u00a0Carrefour\u00a0account to add items to a shopping list by saying generic words such as butter or milk, or names of brands of products.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

The items added to the shopping cart by\u00a0Google Assistant<\/strong>\u00a0will reflect the user\u2019s personal product preferences and historic.\u00a0With the pandemic, accelerating the adoption of e-grocery services,\u00a0Carrefour\u00a0is aiming to increase food e-commerce sales to 4.2 billion euros by 2022 from 1.3 last year.<\/p>\r\n

In India Flipkart also rolls out voice commerce<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In\u00a0India<\/b>,\u00a0Flipkart<\/b>,<\/b>\u00a0owned\u00a0by\u00a0<\/b>Walmart<\/b>,<\/b>\u00a0has introduced a multilingual voice assistant for grocery shopping. The new capability was introduced by\u00a0Flipkart\u2019s\u00a0grocery chain\u00a0Supermart<\/b>.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

The technology helps consumers build their grocery basket by simply talking to the assistant,\u00a0similar to\u00a0talking to staff in the real world. The feature has the capability to understand variations in commands in both English and Hindi thanks to the G<\/strong>oogle\u2019s\u00a0<\/b>AI technology that automatically detects the speaker\u2019s language, making the whole experience even more natural and seamless.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n
